I bought this item to use the included splitter (not for the headphones). The splitter is exactly what I needed to be able to use a credit card swiper like Square/Intuit without having to remove my iPhone from its Otterbox. The reader was recognized without an issue. I haven't tried the headphones and probably never will!

While the mic works fairly well and records cleanly, the earbuds are very "muddy", producing almost no treble. Perfect (I suppose) if you're one of those type that ride around with a car full of sub-woofers, but for anyone wanting to hear their music, go with something else.

I needed an extension for a Square credit card reader as my gumdrop iPad case prevented the reader from fitting into the iPad audio jack. Works great for that purpose.
